Attention all members who care about bringing film and TV work back to Maryland!

This is an important call to action to those of you who are interested in having meaningful production tax incentives beginning next year.  Maryland’s Department of Business and Economic Development is preparing its budget for FY 2012 RIGHT NOW.  Our production tax incentive program is a part of this budget.  The legislature is not free to INCREASE the budget that the Governor submits so it is CRITICAL that the budget include a meaningful appropriation for our program.

PLEASE take a moment to customize the letter below and send it to Secretary Johansson and help us to make sure he makes our program a priority in his budget.

Thank you from all of us involved with the Maryland Film Industry Coalition

Christian Johansson

Economic Development

Dear Secretary Johansson, My name is ____________and I am writing to ask you to increase the FY12 appropriation for the Maryland Film Production Rebate Program to at least the $6.875 level requested in FY08.

The film industry is important to me:  in your own words describe why

According to the Film Production Workgroup organized by DBED in 2009, Maryland could regain its competitive position with a $15 million dollar fund.  I ask that you consider funding the rebate program somewhere between the $6.875 and $15 million dollar level.

Please keep this industry alive by providing a competitive production incentive program.  Forty-four states offer incentive programs and Maryland’s is one of the lowest funded programs.

The film industry provides and maintains jobs, supports small businesses and brings revenue to Maryland.

Thank you for your time and support of our great film industry.

 Very truly yours,

Attention all members

I have spoken with the producer and the casting director for the Lifetime TV project and here is the information on how AFTRA and/or SAG professionals may submit to be considered for work as a background actor or stand in on this project.

You may either go to the open call on Saturday, September 4 at the Byrd Park Roundhouse from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM where there will be a table for AFTRA – SAG members to bring their headshots and resumes or, if you are unable to attend on Saturday but still want to be considered, you may email your picture and resume to upextrascasting@gmail.com.  Please include your union affiliation and your member number, height, weight, age range, phone contact information, and address.  Also, please put “AFTRA – SAG” in the subject line.

To get to the Roundhouse, go south on Boulevard until you dead end at the park.  Take a left at the Columbus Statue then the first right.  Go straight until you see the round brick building in front of you, which is Byrd Park Roundhouse.  All applicants should bring a recent, non-returnable snapshot of themselves and a pen.

Please note that regardless of how you choose to submit, you will be presenting yourself as a local hire as the option to submit via email is being afforded as a courtesy.

The movie is currently scheduled to air on Lifetime this Thanksgiving.

Thank you,

Jane Love
